The University of Erfurt offers 6 scholarship positions for the binational master's program "Middle Eastern Sociology / Anthropology & History" (MESH). These 6 scholarships are a joint cooperation between the Chair of Westasian History, the Université Saint-Joseph (USJ), Beirut / Lebanon, as well as the Université Saint-Esprit De Kaslik (USEK), Jounieh / Lebanon, and is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) because of its special design.
Modules on language acquisition (Arabic) and a semester at one of the partner universities in Lebanon provide an opportunity to study the history and present of the Near East "up close". The one-semester study phase in Lebanon, which is funded by a scholarship from the DAAD, provides knowledge of the sociology / anthropology of the Middle East. It is embedded in the anthropological and global-historical study of history at the University of Erfurt. In return, students from the Lebanese partner universities come to the University of Erfurt for one semester and study together with the German students of the program.
The MA course is also enriched by the exchange of guest lecturers who offer special courses at the respective partner university, conduct binational colloquia and organize joint cultural accompanying programs. The teaching languages of the MA program are English, French and German, and special attention is also paid to the acquisition of Arabic language skills. The graduates of the course are awarded an international double degree and their special knowledge and skills are shown in detail in a diploma supplement.
The DAAD scholarships include a full scholarship for the semester abroad as well as a travel allowance and a foreign health insurance flat rate.
