In 2024, "Ein Sommer in Prag" by Zdena Salivarová was published in German for the first time. The captivating and, despite the tragic events, funny novel is set in Prague in the 1950s. The young protagonist, a singer in a folklore ensemble, is considered politically unreliable in the communist system and is therefore spied on and harassed.
Salivarová incorporated many of her own experiences into the text, which she began in Czechoslovakia and finished in exile after the suppression of the Prague Spring.
In the Literary Salon, selected passages from the novel will be read, reading impressions will be discussed and urgent questions of political oppression and personal freedom will be debated. The evening will be hosted by Aneta Bučková (University of Erfurt) and Dr Sabine Zubarik.
