Award for Paula Greiner-Bär and Ludwig Motz

Under the title "Where is the newborn King of the Jews? (Mt 2,2)", Paula Greiner-Bär examined places and spaces in the Matthean infancy narrative" - a "particularly innovative aspect that combines theological and literary analysis", the jury found.

Ludwig Motz, on the other hand, had dealt with the currently very important question of how debates within the church can be conducted differently - away from a very strongly polarised discourse and towards a new solution-oriented debate culture. His work is entitled "Understanding polarisation. An exemplary analysis of inner-church conflict topics and their argumentative foundations".

The sponsorship award was once again donated by the "Freundeskreis" of the Faculty of Catholic Theology and is endowed with 250 euros each.

Every year on 15 November, the Faculty of Catholic Theology celebrates the feast of its patron saint, the church scholar Albertus Magnus. The university-public celebrations traditionally began at 9 a.m. with a festive service in the cathedral. This was followed by an academic celebration, which had to be held in a small circle this year due to the pandemic. Holger Zaborowski, Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Erfurt, spoke about the crisis in the Church, in society and in science and explored the question of what contribution theology can make to overcoming these crises.
