Register now: CORRECTIV.Lokal Conference 2025 at the University of Erfurt

The CORRECTIV.Lokal conference will take place for the third time on 10 and 11 May at the University of Erfurt. Around 300 local journalists, academics and other people working on sustainable local journalism are expected to attend this conference. Their aim is to promote dialogue-oriented reporting in local journalism, to talk about their work and what it means for democracy. Co-operation partners are the Seminar for Media and Communication Studies at the University of Erfurt, the German Journalists' Association, the "Thüringer Allgemeine" and the Thuringian State Media Authority. Registration is now open.

The so-called "Desert Radar Study" has shown that the ongoing dismantling of local newspapers is weakening the democratic community and the functionality of democracy, which is also facing major challenges in Germany. Hundreds of thousands have already taken to the streets to demonstrate against increasingly obvious fascism and to defend the firewall against right-wing extremism. Against this backdrop, this year's CORRECTIV.Lokal conference will focus on the question of how democracy and (local) journalism are connected and what challenges independent journalism faces.

Participatory formats will focus on research & craft tips, innovation & the future, education & social issues, climate and meet-ups. This year's speakers include among others: freelance writers Gilda Sahebi, Katharina Warda and Nadine Primo, Yağmur Ekim Çay (taz – die tageszeitung), Matthias Fehrensen (Social Media Watchblog), Daniel Drepper (Head of Research Cooperation NDR, WDR, Süddeutsche Zeitung), Anette Dowideit & Justus von Daniels (Editor-in-Chief CORRECTIV), Polo Türk (Neue Deutsche Medienmacher), Sigrun Rottmann (University of Dortmund) and Dirk Neubauer (former District Administrator and Mayor of Central Saxony). Also confirmed: Timo Büchner (Hohenloher Tagblatt), Cederic Carr (Klimadsahboard), Rebecca Ciesielski (BR,) Jana Heck (WDR), Michael Heußler (SWR), Leonie Hugger (23 degrees), Kathrin Jäger (Tide), Kathleen Kröger (Thüringer Allgemeine), Johanna Schöbel (Freie Presse) Amrei Feuerstack (found it e.V.), Marcel Helbig (Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung), Greta Nagel (Nürnberger Presse), Andreas Müller (Wedel TV), Daniel Noglik (Ostfriesen-Zeitung), Aline Pabst (Saarbrücken Zeitung) Sarah Pellul (University of Erfurt), Benjamin Piel (Weser Kurier), Jacob Queißner (Gerda), Henning Rasche (Rheinische Post), Ilja Regier (Mindener Tagblatt), Astrid Schaffert (Zukunft KlimaSozial), Ella Schindler (Neue Deutsche Medienmacher) Ronja Schraub (Kolumna), Laura Wahl (Stadträtin Erfurt), Katharina Wehinger (Starke Demokratie e.V.), Silvio Wenzel (Science Media Centre), Sabrina Winter (Frag den Staat) and Heike Zahn (SWR).
