Fake news, bullshit and political disinformation - a panel discussion on the question of who we trust and how politics is made with truth. With Professor Thorsten Thiel (University of Erfurt) Etrit Asllani ("KeinFakeNews") and Kathleen Kröger (local editorial office Thüringer Allgemeine) on the topic of "Media, trust, truth". The event will be moderated by Professor Bernhard Kleeberg (University of Erfurt).

Who and which media do we trust when it comes to credible reporting? How is attention generated, how are readers and followers retained? What is taken for granted as reality, when is the truth of reports/reportages doubted? And when does all this become dangerous for democracy?

As part of the lecture series organised by the History Department at the University of Erfurt on the topic of "Handlungsfähigkeit statt Schockstarre. Über die Komplexität der Gegenwart und die Wehrhaftigkeit der Demokratie" in the summer semester 2024, we will be discussing the topic of "Media, trust, truth" on 24 April 2024 at 6pm in the Kulturquartier. The panellists will be Etrit Asllani ("KeinFakenews"), a fact-checker known from TikTok, YouTube etc., local Erfurt reporter Kathleen Kröger from the Thüringer Allgemeine Zeitung and Thorsten Thiel, Professor of Democracy Promotion and Digital Policy at the University of Erfurt. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Bernhard Kleeberg, Head of the Erfurt Research Centre for Political Epistemologies.
We look forward to your participation and a lively discussion on stage and with the audience!
