Guests at the panel discussion in the Kulturquartier include Helmut Vogel (historian, German Deaf Association) and Mark Zaurov (historian, Association of Deaf Jews).

Deaf historians and activists such as Helmut Vogel and Mark Zaurov are increasingly criticising the fact that deaf (and hard of hearing) people find historical education significantly more difficult or even impossible due to communication barriers. Access to well-founded and differentiated academic research is generally reserved for hearing people. As a result of the resulting lack of information, deaf and hard of hearing people are susceptible to simple populist imagery and content. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of this problem, to communicate historical knowledge in an accessible way and to initiate a dialogue between deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people.

Interpreters for German Sign Language (DGS) and written interpreters will be available for this accessible online event.

The event is organised in cooperation with the association KuGG - Culture and History of the Deaf.
