Subject Areas and Methods

Research and teaching in public economics and economic policy focus on the analysis of government action using economic methods. The focus is on the close integration of theory and empirical evidence, with the aim of making quantitative statements about the impact of government intervention and the emergence of government decisions in the political process. The focus is on the design and evaluation of policy measures, the economics of education, and the consideration of behavioral economic aspects. Methodologically, research and teaching are anchored in applied microeconomics and econometrics; in particular, experimental approaches are also pursued.

The following graphs provide a brief insight into developments in the field of finance in terms of content and methodology. The increasing thematic breadth and the strongly increased weight of behavioral economics as well as (quasi-) experimental methods become clear.
