lecture by Professor Christine Schirrmacher (University of Bonn) as part of the exhibition "The Orient in Gotha"

Paul Kahle, who is the focus of this event, studied Oriental Studies and Protestant Theology in Marburg, Halle and Berlin. He also worked as a school principal in Cairo from 1903 to 1908. As a professor at the University of Bonn, he endeavoured to expand the Oriental Seminar. His wife Marie Kahle and their oldest son spontaneously helped Jewish friends and acquaintances, which brought the family into conflict with the Nazis in 1938. The orientalist and his family were ultimately forced to emigrate to England.

Due to limited capacity, please register by 21 October on 0361/737-5530 or by e-mail: veranstaltungen.fb@uni-erfurt.de.
