Two-day event as part of the Academic Skills Training programme for doctoral candidates (e.g. Master's students) and doctoral candidates in the first year of their doctorate who would like to apply for a scholarship.

The training sessions will take place online on 2 and 3 September from 9 am to 12 pm.

Contents of the workshop

There are two important hurdles to overcome before starting a doctorate: Prospective doctoral candidates need

  • a supervisor
  • and funding for their doctoral project.

One possible form of funding is a doctoral scholarship. But what does the scholarship landscape look like in Germany? Do applicants have to be highly talented, particularly committed or needy to have a realistic chance of success when applying for a scholarship? How can I research funding opportunities? What documents are required for the application? In this workshop, we will answer these questions and develop personal application strategies together. We will also work out a realistic time and work plan for the application. A special focus will be placed on how applicants can be convincing in the application documents and interviews without pretending.
