George Akeliwira
My research interests include mineral economics, development economics, resource governance, and policy analysis. I have a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ghana and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Erfurt. I have six years research experience in nonprofit organizations on topics such as externalities of gold mining and fiscal regimes and three years as head of Economic Policy and Resource Governance. I have also done consultancy services for international nonprofit organizations including the International Labor Organization (ILO) on gold mining and local economic development as well as issues of child labor and small-scale gold mining in Ghana and the sub-region. My PhD project is on gold mining and illicit financial flows (IFFs) and under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Manfred Königstein.
