1. Will my achievements abroad be recognized?

The study program spokesperson is responsible for the recognition of domestic and foreign study achievements.

In order to have academic achievements recognized, the required form must be downloaded and completed at Studium und Lehre.

The recognition of study achievements made abroad is required if you have already completed studies abroad prior to your studies at the University of Erfurt or if you are going abroad for a semester or a year during your studies at the University of Erfurt. In the latter case, it is helpful that you complete a Learning Agreement before beginning your studies abroad, which regulates which courses you will complete abroad and how they will subsequently be credited at the University of Erfurt. Participants in the Erasmus program are required to complete a Learning Agreement; all other students going abroad are strongly encouraged to complete a Learning Agreement.

You can find more details and forms here.

You should apply for recognition immediately after your return and after you have received the transcript of records of your studies abroad.

2. Will my credits from another degree program be recognized?

The study program spokesperson is responsible for the recognition of domestic and foreign study achievements.

In order to have study achievements recognized, the required form must be downloaded and filled out at Studium und Lehre.

More information and the corresponding forms can be found here.

This must be submitted for recognition along with the appropriate transcript of records (certificate indicating course title, instructor's name, credits and grade, and module assignment).

3. Will my language exams and international language certificates be recognized?

The recognition of language examinations and of international language certificates is carried out by the Language Center.

You can find more information in this regard here.

4. How can I balance modules in the orientation phase?

  • Zwei staatswissenschaftliche Studienrichtungen

According to § 3 para. 1 c) B-PO-Sta, during the O-phase in the major field of study "a failed module can be compensated once by a module of at least equal weight in the same field of study, which was passed with the grade satisfactory (3.0)". An analogous regulation applies according to § 4 para. 1c) B-PO-Sta also for the minor field of study.

If the major and minor field of study are chosen from the fields of study in political science (law, social sciences or economics) and thus the so-called "joint O-phase in state studies" is to be completed, the aforementioned regulation applies in two of the three fields of study in political science, regardless of whether it is the major or minor field of study.

  • A non-state science minor

For students who have not chosen their second field of study in the area of political science, the study of the political science field of study (major or minor field of study) extends to the three respective compulsory modules plus two additional modules from the other political sciences; e.g.: Major field of study: education, minor field of study: political science-social science --> 3 compulsory social science modules plus two modules from law and/or economics.

Analogous to the minor in Management, see below, in this case there is a one-time compensation opportunity between the five modules of the O-Phase.

- Subcase: minor in management without a major in governmental studies

According to § 4 para. 3 B-PO-Man "a failed module can be compensated once by a module that was passed with at least the grade satisfactory (3.0)." Here, the aforementioned binding to the respective minor field of study explicitly does not apply, but between the five modules of the O-Phase of the minor field of study Management there is an unrestricted compensation possibility.

Attention: If the major subject was also chosen at the Faculty of Political Science, what was said above under the point "Two fields of study in political science" applies!

Further notes

The compensation regulation refers exclusively to the module level. A module usually consists of several courses. You can find the pass rule of the respective modules in the module descriptions under the module examination code #99. Individual courses, however, cannot be balanced.

An "equalized" module is understood to mean the credit points (usually 6) to be acquired with it. Accordingly, a module with 6 LP cannot be balanced with a module with 3 LP.

With "same" field of study is meant that modules, for example, of the economic field of study can only be balanced with modules of the economic field of study. This applies analogously to the modules of the fields of study Law and Social Sciences.

The module "Introduction to the Study of Political Science" (ESS) can in principle be balanced with all modules of the three previously named fields of study. However, this does not apply in the reverse case, i.e. a law, social science or economics module cannot be compensated with the ESS module as a "joker", so to speak, since it does not belong to a field of study.

If you have any questions regarding the possibility of compensation and your studies, please contact your mentor!

5. What is a Brückenmodul?

This is a module that can be taken from another field of study.

In the major field of study, a module of 6 LP can be brought in once from another political science. These modules function as "bridge modules" between the political sciences.

6. Can I change my major and minor field of study again?

According to the framework examination regulations, a change of major and minor field of study is only possible at the end of the 1st year of study upon application. The orientation phase must then be successfully completed in a new field of study in the 2nd year of study.

The application for a change of study direction must be submitted in writing to Department 1: Studies and Teaching. Please also refer to the information.

Full-study students who only wish to change their major and minor after passing the O-Phase also apply for a change of study direction. The number of semesters does not change due to the identical O-phase.

7. Where can I get my provisional certificate (adjusted certificate)?

Requests preliminary grade summary in advance to (only for "Voll-Stawisten"): Frau Schöppe

  • send a simply created word table (grade overview: module code, module name, LP, grade).
  • Put in the table only what you want to bring in --> but everything you have to bring in must be in it. If you want to leave out something you do not have to bring in, do not enter it in the table. In the end, the 180 points, from O-Phase + Q-Phase + still outstanding, must be achieved.
  • The credit points in total (from Orientation Phase, Qualification Phase and outstanding modules) should add up to 180 points upon completion.
  • Furthermore, I need a current certified extract of your grades in E.L.V.I.S. in the original.

The University of Erfurt does not issue a preliminary transcript. However, students can order a certified grade report (transcript) in German and/or English at any time from the Department 1:Study and Teaching.

8. Who do I contact if I want to claim compensation for a disadvantage?

Prospective students or students with long-term impairments (e.g. hearing, vision, speech, postural and locomotor impairments, chronic-somatic and mental illnesses as well as partial performance and autism spectrum disorders) can make use of the disadvantage compensation.

In general, it is recommended at this point to arrange a meeting with the representative for severely disabled persons. He or she can provide you with specific information and support.

You can also submit the application for disadvantage compensation to him or bring it filled out in connection with the interview.
