Short vita

After obtaining a diploma in Sociology and Philosophy and a doctorate, he completed his habilitation in Sociology at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1990. From 1994 he held the chair of structural analysis of modern societies (macrosociology) at the University of Education in Erfurt, since 2001 he has held this professorship at the University of Erfurt. After a DAAD lectureship at the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto in 1993, he again held a DAAD lectureship at Saint Petersburg State University from 2003 to 2005. In 2009-2012, he was director of the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy. In addition, Ettrich is co-founder and, since 1995, editor of the Berliner Journal für Soziologie, one of the five general sociology journals in Germany. Ettrich is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Eastern Europe Association of German Business.
