Expert report and grade

Once the work has been submitted on time, it's time to wait: Wait!

According to the examination regulations, expert reports have a deadline of 8 weeks after receipt of the thesis. Please note that this is not the same as the deadline for submitting the thesis, as the formal processing and distribution must first take place.

If both expert reports are available, you will usually receive a notification by email within one working day of receiving the last expert report that you can collect your certificate of achievement from the ESE. A copy of the transcript of records will be sent to Studies and Teaching.

There may be delays for the following reasons:

1. Missing expert reports: If expert reports are missing after the deadline for the reviewers, the ESE will send out reminders independently. In this case, only your reviewers can provide you with information about the processing status of the expert reports.
2. Requesting a third expert report: If the grades in the two expert reports differ by more than a whole grade, the ESE will request a third expert report. The assessment process may then be delayed by a further 8 weeks in individual cases. However, you will be notified immediately when all three expert reports are available.

If you do not pass: If a grade of 5.0 is awarded in at least one expert report, the thesis is deemed to have been failed. In this case, we will contact you and explain the next steps in a personal meeting.
