Film 1: An Easy Girl  (2019)  30.10.2024, LG1/HS3, 4pm  -  OmU, French with German subtitles

Over the course of a summer, Naïma has one foot in two very different worlds, the familiar one and a new one full of status and luxury of her cousine Sofia. Through the evolving relationship between Naïma and Sofia, this film reflects on the themes of female emancipation, class difference, and the idea of beauty as a resource.

Film 2: Golda (2023)  -  20.11.2024, LG1/HS3, 4pm  -  OmU, English with German subtitles

Golda is a biographical drama film, depicting the actions of Golda Meir, the 4th Prime Minister of Israel, during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. When Egypt, Syria and Jordan launch the surprise attack she, the first woman in the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, has to prevail against the all-male cabinet members and other famous figures like Henry Kissinger.

Film 3: Black Girl (1966)  -  18.12.2024, LG1/HS3, 4pm  -  OmU, French with English subtitles

The young woman Diouana moves from Senegal to France to work for a French couple. She hopes to continue her former job as a nanny but experiences harsh treatment and becomes increasingly aware of her constrained and alienated situation. The film, seen as a classic of world cinema and central to sub-Saharan African film making, addresses the effects of colonialism and racism in Africa and Europe.

Film 4: Wadjda (2012)  -  15.01.2025, LG1/HS3, 4pm  -  OmU, Arabic with English subtitles

10-year-old Wadjda challenges deep-rooted Saudi traditions in her determined quest to buy a bicycle. When everything goes against her plans, she sees one last chance in her school’s Koran recitation competition and the large cash prize for the first place. Wadjda is the first film ever shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and shows the immense challenges women face in Saudi Arabia, while also making clear that there is room for change.
