The author
Markus Vinzent, born in Saarbrücken in 1959, studied Philosophy, Theology, Jewish Studies, Classical Studies and Archaeology. After completing his doctorate in Munich and his habilitation in Heidelberg, he worked as a professor of religious history at the universities of Cologne, Birmingham and Seoul. He taught at King's College London until his retirement in 2022. He is currently head of the "Meister Eckhart" research centre at the Max-Weber-Kolleg of the University of Erfurt.

Markus Vinzent has written numerous academic publications on the beginnings of Christianity, late antiquity, Meister Eckhart, medieval Philosophy and methods of writing history. He is Vice President of the Meister Eckhart Society and was a member of the Literarische Union e.V. In 2019, he was awarded the Chair Gutenberg, the academic prize of the University of Strasbourg and the Cercle Gutenberg.
