One Thousand and One Nights: The Book of Love

As part of its annual exhibition "The Orient in Gotha", the Gotha Research Library of the University of Erfurt invites you to a storytelling concert with translator Claudia Ott and the IBTAHIDSCH Ensemble on Saturday, 28 September. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the "Spiegelsaal" at Friedenstein Castle.

The translator Claudia Ott and the IBTAHIDSCH Ensemble present stories from "One Thousand and One Nights". The famous collection of tales was passed down orally in the Middle East for centuries and was therefore constantly changing. European scholars began to study the tales in the 18th century. Under the title "The Book of Love", love dramas from the oldest sources of "One Thousand and One Nights" will be told and recited at the storytelling concert.

All interested parties are cordially invited, admission is free. Afterwards, the Friends of the Gotha Research Library invite you to a small reception.

If you are interested, please register by 26 September at the following e-mail address: veranstaltungen.fb@uni-erfurt.de

The IBTAHIDSCH Ensemble

... was founded in 2015 on the initiative of former Celle superintendent Dr Hans-Georg Sundermann. The founder and director is the Arabist and choir director Claudia Ott, who lives in the district of Celle. The name IBTAHIDSCH comes from an Arabic songbook from the tradition of the Protestant Schneller schools in the Holy Land. The translation of the Christmas carol ‘Fröhlich soll mein Herze springen’ (‘Let my heart leap for joy’) that has been handed down there begins with the words ‘ابتهج قلبي تغن Rejoice, my heart, and sing!’.
