Printed Books of the 17th Century (VD17)
The Gotha Research Library preserves over 12,000 prints from the period 1601 to 1700 that have only been identified its collections. As part of the national master plan for the digitization of VD 17, the research library initially digitized 3,000 of these unique titles. The project was funded by the German Research Foundation.
The prints come from the library's so-called Ducal Collection, which grew out of the collections of the ducal house of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. They belong to the subject groups theology, philosophy, history, mathematics, politics, jurisprudence, biography and literature and form the core of the collection.
Through its efforts, the Gotha Research Library is making an important contribution to the digitization of the printed cultural heritage.
