The Gotha Research Library preserves a unique wealth of printed works that have been produced in Europe since the invention of printing. The collection of prints from the 15th to 18th centuries and the first half of the 19th century represents the universe of early modern knowledge in Europe. It comprises about 350,000 historical prints, mainly belonging to the Duke's Collection and the library's Gymnasium Collection. Today, the Gotha Research Library acquires historical prints and thus fills the gaps that arose especially between 1930 and 1956.
