An interactive discussion will focus on the political implications of artificial intelligence in democracies, as its influence on decision-making, public opinion and electoral processes grows. The discussion will address opportunities, such as improving policy-making and transparency, as well as risks, such as manipulation and the concentration of power.

We invite you to an interactive discussion to explore the political implications of artificial intelligence in democracies. As AI technologies rapidly evolve, their influence on political decision-making, public opinion, and electoral processes is becoming increasingly significant.

We will discuss both, the opportunities AI presents – such as improving policy-making, enhancing political engagement, and fostering transparency – and the risks it poses, including the potential for manipulation, erosion of trust, and the concentration of political power. Our panelists will delve into the urgent need for ethical guidelines, regulation, and accountability to ensure that AI strengthens, rather than undermines democratic values. While the panelists already bring in different perspectives from the U.S., Germany, and Global South(s), we invite the audience to join the debate and bring in their own questions and reflections in a “Fish Bowl” format.
