How are governments adapting to the challenges of regulating digital platforms in our rapidly evolving online landscape?

On November 20, 2024, we had the honour of hosting a thought-provoking talk on the Politics of Platform Regulation by Dr. Robert Gorwa. This event was jointly organised by the Professor for Democracy Promotion and Digital Policy, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Thiel, at the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences, and Dr. Hasnain Bokhari from the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy.

Dr. Gorwa delved into the complexities that governments face as they navigate the intricate terrain of digital platform regulation. His insights shed light on global approaches to addressing pressing online issues such as disinformation and hate speech.

The discussion not only highlighted the challenges but also emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping effective regulatory frameworks.

A big thank you to Dr. Gorwa, Prof. Thiel, and Dr. Bokhari for their contributions to this vital conversation.

Let’s continue to engage in dialogue about the future of digital governance!
