Espionage between Friend and Foe?

The panel discussion on "Espionage between friend and foe? International cooperation between intelligence services under the microscope" took place in the packed hall of the Collegium Maius on April 10.

As the last event of a long-standing cooperation between the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Professor Sophia Hoffmann, top-class guests once again came to Erfurt to discuss the apparent paradox of intelligence service cooperation. On the one hand, intelligence services are often associated with the highest level of information secrecy, but in reality there is a permanent exchange of information between intelligence services - whether voluntarily or through espionage. Experts from practice, academia and the media were invited to discuss this topic on this evening - Dr. Gerhard Conrad, former BND officer and former director of the EU Intelligence Analysis Centre INTCEN, Professor Susanne Fischer, professor at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in the Department of Intelligence Services, and Florian Flade, investigative journalist at WDR and Süddeutsche Zeitung. The event was moderated by Professor Sophia Hoffman, professor of International Politics and Conflict Research and spokesperson for the Security Capitalism Research Group at the University of Erfurt.
