The Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt and the Department of Public Policy at Central European University (CEU) have teamed up to offer an innovative joint course titled "The Politics and Policies of Aid". This special course, taught by Prof. Dr. Achim Kemmerling (Brandt School) and Prof. Dr. Tilo Bodenstein (CEU), aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of international development aid.
The course delves into the changing dynamics of the global development aid system, which has witnessed significant shifts in recent years. With the emergence of new influential donor countries, particularly China, and the growing prominence of South-South cooperation, the traditional Western-dominated landscape of development aid has evolved. Through interactive online and in-person sessions, the course explores the complexities of modern aid policies and their political implications.
A unique aspect of this joint course is that it includes an in-person component in Vienna. While the initial sessions are held online, Brandt School students will travel to Vienna in April 2023. During their visit, students from both institutions will have the opportunity to visit the United Nations office, providing them with real-world exposure to global and multilateral initiatives.
The collaboration between Brandt School and CEU in offering this joint course exemplifies their commitment to providing cutting-edge education that prepares students for the challenges of the modern world. By promoting virtual exchanges and digital learning, the course also aligns with Brandt School's initiatives to foster internationalization and digitalization in higher education. This collaboration also underscores the Brandt School's dedication to cultivating partnerships with institutions in both the Global South and Global North.
