Practical information for travelling to Erfurt

Erfurt is the capital of the German state Thuringia. It is located in the central part of Germany. Thanks to its central location, Erfurt is easily accessible by high speed trains from the three largest airports of Germany: Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, and Munich.

  • Travel from the Berlin Airport (BER)
From BER, you need to take a local train either to "Berlin Südkreuz", or to the main station "Berlin Hauptbahnhof". From these stations you can change to a direct ICE to Erfurt.
  • Travel from the Frankfurt Airport (FRA)
This airport has two train stations, and you need to go to "Flughafen Fernbahnhof" (Long-distance trains), where you can catch a direct train to Erfurt. Note, that depending on the time you are travelling, you might need to change a train on Frankfurt Main Station "Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof". Please note that the Frankfurt Hahn Airport (HHN) is far away from the actual Frankfurt International Airport and travelling from there could take a long time. Therefore, we do not recommend to fly to the Frankfurt Hahn Airport.
  • Travel from the Munich Airport (MUC)
The Munich Airport has one trains station for local trains, which connect the MUC with the main train station in Munich "München Hauptbahnhof" (around 40 minutes travelling time). From the main station, you can catch a direct ICE to Erfurt.
  • Travel from the Leipzig-Halle Airport (LEJ)
Leipzig-Halle has a train station at the airport, where you can take a local train either to Leipzig or to Halle, and then a direct train to Erfurt.
  • Travel from the Airport Nürnberg (NUE)
From the airport you need to reach the train station "Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof" by the Undeground Line 2 (U-Bahn-Linie 2). From the train station you can catch a direct ICE to Erfurt.

Train tickets can be purchased via the website of the German railway system.

Note that there are different price categories and the cheapest tickets can be used only on the specific train you select during the booking. More expansive tickets (Flex-Price) can be used on any train in the direction of Erfurt.
