Winners of the school competition "City and Religion" announced

In order to arouse enthusiasm for the humanities among pupils, the "Religion and Urbanity" research group at the University of Erfurt launched a school competition in 2022. The aim was to encourage participants to explore their city from the perspective of different subjects and its interrelationships with the religions that live in and influence it. The winners have now been announced.

The students were asked to reflect on why they chose a particular topic and to document how they approached it through text, images and sound. The aim of the research group was to include a reflection by the pupils, in the sense that pupils critically deal with the approach and processing of history and the present, learn to deal with their unconscious presuppositions and different images of history.

Now the jury, consisting of members of the collegiate research group and the subject didactics of the University of Erfurt, has deliberated and named a winning class, which, in their opinion, has worked together most successfully in an interdisciplinary manner. "The pupils in this class have presented the reciprocity of the city and religion in an appealing way and thus won the competition," the jury said. The winners are still "secret", but on 16 November the participants are invited to an award ceremony in the new research building on the campus of the University of Erfurt.

The winning entry will be featured on the blog of the research group with a project report. The prize money will be donated by the "Sparkassenstiftung Erfurt".
