Tenth event in the "Monday Lectures" series in the winter semester 2024/25, jointly organised by the Max-Weber-Kolleg, the Department of Religious Studies and the Theological Research Centre t³ Theology – Tradition – Transformation.

About the event

In modern times, the use of church buildings has been reduced to worship in both major denominations. Yet sacred spaces are much more than that - architectural culture and places of Arts, identity and social places. Current changes in the use of church buildings are re-emphasising these dimensions and thus spatially creating a church whose boundaries to other social actors are becoming permeable. Especially in the context of a secularised society, there is great potential here. The lecture outlines the transformations in the understanding and practice of church utilisation based on the results of the "Sacred Space Transformation" research group.

Dr Kerstin Menzel currently holds the professorship for Practical Theology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and has been a member of the DFG research group since 2020.

This event from the Monday Lecture series is organised by the Theological Research Centre t³ Theology – Tradition – Transformation.

All interested parties are cordially invited. Registration is not required.
