Funding for the renovation of the Donaustraße student residence

"Thuringia is continuously pushing ahead with the refurbishment and creation of student accommodation," said Feller. This is important because the availability of affordable accommodation is another important argument in favour of Thuringia as a university location. "Together with the Student Services Organisation, we have worked over the past few years to eliminate the backlog of refurbishment work on residential homes and create modern student accommodation."

The residential home in the Donaustraße offers flats for around 250 students. It is a prefabricated building with residential flats. After the building has been renovated, individual apartments with their own kitchenette and bathroom will be available to students here – probably from the end of 2027.

The Thuringian Student Services Organisation offers around 1,300 residential homes in a total of eleven halls of residence in Erfurt. Most recently, the two student residences at Nordhäuser Str. 78 (former dental clinic) and Nordhäuser Str. 79 (former blood donation centre) opposite the university campus were completed in 2019 after extensive renovation work. Currently the student residential home at Plauener Weg 8 is being renovated.
